The importance of public space in the life of our cities
On 23 November 2011 we hosted presentations and debate on the theme of "Austerity & Place", discussing the importance of public space in the life of our cities. With the public realm increasingly at the forefront of the contemporary political agenda, from the violent disorder during this summer’s riots, to the questioning of the private ownership of public space, debate and protest has become increasingly focused around public right of access. Guest speakers included Anna Minton Author of "Ground Control" and writer for the Guardian, Finn Williams from Common Office, Joost Beunderman from 00:/ Research and Irena Bauman from Bauman Lyons Architects, Author of "How to be a Happy Architect". The event was very well attended by an audience including clients, journalists and students; feedback was that it was one of the best "Twenty" events to date. Link to video |
