FCBS wins first prize at The Bentley Be Inspired Awards

16th October 2009

Richard Priest, FCB Studios' Architectural Software Engineer, collected first prize yesterday in the Innovation in Generative Design category of the Bentley Be Inspired Awards at a ceremony in Charlotte, North Carolina, US. This awards programme recognizes the world’s most outstanding achievements and innovation in infrastructure design, engineering, construction and operations. Nominated projects come from Bentley’s users around the globe, and the winning projects are selected by a rigorous jury of independent experts in various fields of infrastructure.

Richard worked with FCBS Studios’ architect Iain Williams on an innovative roof design for the new Worcester Library and History Centre which provides ventilation using building-integrated natural ventilation controls and natural light suffused through glazing and shading. Using parametric modelling in GenerativeComponents, the team could alter multiple variables within the constraints of the sustainable design brief and troubleshoot issues as they arose.
