This highly sustainable workplace demonstrates innovative and replicable strategies that set a new standard for green commercial offices. The two-storey, deep-plan building has been designed to provide an exemplary working environment and to minimise energy usage, with the opportunity of approaching zero CO² production in operation.

The new headquarters brings together a workforce previously dispersed over four locations. The building can accommodate up to 485 staff in 76,500 square feet of office space on a brownfield site at Churchward, adding impetus to the development of this historic industrial core of Swindon. This was the heart of Brunel’s Great Western Railway complex, the largest railway works in Britain at the end of the 19th century; the form of the new building is clearly reminiscent of the adjacent 19th century engine sheds.
