Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios - Museum of Somerset, Taunton
FCBS were appointed as Architects and Design Team Leaders for the Museum of Somerset project. This new building is situated alongside Taunton Castle and provides visitors with unprecedented public access to a Grade I listed building which has been closed to visitors for decades.

The new main entrance links the Museum to the revived river walkway and Castle Green, making an exciting new route through the town’s emerging cultural quarter. The Castle buildings date from the 11th century and are designated as a Scheduled Monument.

The new museum installation tells the story of Somerset together with comprehensive new visitor facilities.

The project was awarded £4.8 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund in March 2007 and has been developed with great support from the local community. Since its opening in September 2011 visitor numbers have tripled.
