CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION OF HIGHER EDUCATION BUILDINGS

Eleni Davidson, PhD Partnership with University College London

Eleni's PhD aims to develop a modelling framework to inform climate change adaptation strategies for university building design.

The framework considers the life-cycle carbon and life-cycle cost impacts of design interventions, whilst incorporating future climate uncertainties. The life-cycle optimization process is demonstrated through the theoretical refurbishment of five case study urban higher education buildings.  As part of this research, it is also considered how varying assumptions relating to the rate of grid decarbonisation impacts the share of embodied versus operational carbon and resulting optimal design strategies for climate change adaptation.
