Conservation Design
We consider that conservation and design are inseparable and that old buildings should have new, contemporary lives. Buildings carry an important part of our cultural inheritance, so with respect for the fabric, applying specialist heritage skills and creativity in bringing them up to contemporary social and environmental standards, we can help realise their potential in the next chapter of their stories.
Making more of modernism
Modern buildings often have a direct social, artistic and technological significance, displaying masterful use of new materials, space, light and volume. The flipside is that some modernist buildings are fairly unsustainable and present demanding conservation challenges. We apply a well informed programme of repair and refurbishment to create opportunities to rediscover and reconnect with the building for its sustainable future.
Low energy Retrofit
We apply decades of experience and accumulated expertise to the retrofit of buildings. We don't just aim to reduce operational energy consumption but also improve how they function, look after occupant health and comfort, prolong the lifespan of the building and thus increase value and to reduce long term embodied carbon impact.
Old Town New Town
The character of our town centres comes from their history and their communities, their rich mix of building types and uses. Bringing together the old and the new, conserving, retrofiting and reinventing as required, our urban designers, conservation specialists and architects bring the stories of an area to life, developing their new uses that meet contemporary requirements.
